  • Being part of a group helps children to explore difficult issues in a supportive and fun learning environment, where they can practice and receive helpful feedback from the group leaders and their peers.
  • We offer comprehensive weekly group programs and a series of workshops, designed for children aged 6 - 12 years, facilitated by experienced clinical psychologists.
  • We are a family focussed service and endeavour to keep our cost as economical as possible (Medicare and health rebates further reduce costs).

Comprehensive 6 Week Program Saturday Sessions (Years 2-5)

Resilience / Social Skills / Emotional Management

  • We’re delighted you’re considering the Life Skills for Kids program, designed to support your child’s social and emotional development in a fun, supportive group setting. Children explore challenges, practice new skills, and receive helpful feedback from both group leaders and peers.
  • For children aged 7–10 years (school years 2–5). Small groups helping children build confidence, emotional skills, resilience, and friendships.

Program Focus:

Grouped with similar aged children, this program focuses on important emotional‑management and relationship skills:

  • Communication & interpersonal skills – including assertiveness, negotiation & bullying‑management
  • Friendship‑making skills
  • Identifying and understanding feelings
  • Coping and emotional regulation strategies
  • Helpful self‑talk

Program Details:

  • When: Life Skills for Kids currently has no upcoming programs available.
  • Led by: Clinical Psychologist with 25+ years’ experience
  • Support: 2–3 facilitators per group, evidence-based activities
  • Where: Enclosed outdoor playground + indoor space
  • Extras: Parent and child resources, home strategies, personalised feedback

Who is it suited for:

  • Children who struggle with confidence, friendships, or emotions
  • Children able to participate in a small group with general guidance

What is involved with the weekly comprehensive group programs?

  • Weekly group sessions are 1.5 hours in duration.
  • You and your child will be invited to an initial appointment before placement. At this appointment, you will:
  • Meet with the group leader.
  • Learn more about the program details.
  • Discuss how you would like your child to benefit from attending.
  • Decide if the group is suitable for your child’s needs and which age group they will suit best.
  • Add any sensitive concerns on the enrolment form if not comfortable sharing in front of your child.
  • Ensure your child has sufficient skills to manage behaviour, attention, and follow instructions. If unsure, discuss with us over the phone or at the initial appointment.
  • 6–8 weeks after completion, you and your child will attend a follow-up appointment to review progress and skill integration.
  • Weekly parent information sheets provide skills covered and strategies to apply them at home and school.
  • Sessions are held on Saturday mornings at the Canning Vale Community Centre.
